It’s an experience – total submission, placing yourself literally into the ‘hands’ and techniques of age old healing techniques at the Kairali Ayurvedic Healing Village in Kodumba, Palakad. At the end of it, you are totally rejuvenated, relaxed and refreshed.
About two hours away from Coimbatore airport, the Healing Village is situated on a winding picturesque road, flanked by green fields and tall trees. As our car enters the premises, my body slips into relax mode automatically, as I take in the dense vegetation and disembark at the reception. It is peaceful and quiet and I feel a sense of happiness just being in this green oases. A sandalwood paste tikka is applied to my forehead by a pleasant lady called Sunita and I was gifted an angavastram. After a welcome drink, fresh watermelon juice, I was escorted to my bungalow named Anizham (after a zodiac constellation related to success and fame). Later I got to know that each villa is based on the ancient edit of Vaastu Shashtra.

Villas with a Theme
For families of four, it’s best to check into the Maharaja Suite which has two separate rooms with King Size beds and is truly built with luxury in mind and every little detail from the bed-covers to the beautiful sit-out in the lawn around the pool or river. It has separate sit-outs in the front and back of the villa. Each villa is located very conveniently to all the resort’;s facilities – the restaurant, entertainment areas, the treatment centre. The suite also has a personal coffee maker. Each room has special Ayurvedic amenities – like the herbal shampoo, toothpowder and neem soap.
Each bungalow is built with a sensitivity to the environment, with redoxide flooring, tiled roofs, eco-friendly furniture, and yet providing the comforts of modern living. A patio adds to the beauty of each bungalow, where one can read a book or just sip on herbal tea, watching the trees, listening to birds chirping and you could possible doze on the reclining cane chair with a cool breeze caressing your face.

Packages to Pamper
Depending on the package you book for, there are some wonderful ayurvedic massages like the oil massages, ‘potli’ massages, powder massages, shirodhara that concentrate on rejuvenation and detoxification, weight management, stress management and more.
The doctor’s appointment decides the course of your stay and it’s a total relaxing experience. The women’s treatment area has a separate entrance and offers plenty of privacy to make you feel comfortable. You need to undress, wear a sarong, and footwear provided by the staff before proceeding to your massage room and allowing the treatment to take over.
Massages can begin as early as 8 am, always with a head oil massage and upper back, while being seated on a chair. This is followed by the full body massage for about an hour, followed by a steam bath (if required) or one can have a shower. Breakfast is wholesome and low cal; cut fruits of two varieties, followed by either wheat flour dosa with tomato chutney; toast with herbal/green tea.
On day two you could have iddiappams with potato stew, day three is uttapams with sambhar and chutney – needless to say each offering is prepared with ayurvedic principles in mind, so it’s low cal and delicious. Each meal is accompanied by two kinds of water – the pink coloured one and the yellow coloured one – each extremely healthy in it’s own way. The pink one is called chukkuvellam and the pink colour comes from boiling the herb Pathimugam. This water has been widely used since ancient days and is an excellent herbal medicine while the yellow one is a diuretic.
