The name Aston Martin still conjures up visions of Sir Sean Connery and his later contemporaries hooning around in DB5s and other Aston Martins while blowing it up an hour or two later- much to the discomfort of the folks at the ‘Q’ branch.
But the world’s best known secret agent will take a strong liking to the newest Aston which is the DBX. The DBX is perhaps the most important car that this revered British marque has ever made since a whole new factory has been built for it. The performance SUV segment is the most lucrative space in the world automobile market with Bentley, Porsche and Lamborghini cashing in handsomely with their SUVs. The DBX is the entry ticket for Aston Martin but it is not an SUV slapped with an Aston badge as this car exudes the gentlemanly cruiser ethos which is core to the appeal of any Aston Martin.
Plus the DBX looks right and that is a relief for sure. The sensuous lines being draped on an SUV canvas looks fantastic with gorgeous surfacing. The rear is plucked from the Vantage with a pronounced line while the tail-lamps are just plain gorgeous to look at.
The side view is enhanced by those massive 22inch wheels while its smooth shape is uncorrupted and Aston Martin has refrained from adding in various needless lines. The front is also pure Aston Martin with a massive grille which gives it an authoritarian stance. However make no mistake that it is without doubt the most beautiful SUV currently on sale.
Inside it’s a brilliant mix of craftsmanship and top-grade materials. The design is gorgeous while sky is the limit in terms of options. Technology is sprinkled amongst a layer of leather, metal and glittering chrome. The stitching to the design of the speaker grilles- everything looks, feels and smells special. With two extra doors which open swan-like, the space inside is ample yet also Aston have dialed in a tinge of a ‘sports car like’ intimate seating atmosphere with those shapely seats.
However there is no question which seat should be taken in a DBX since the V8 woofle is something you want to hear and experience for yourself. The engine makes 542 bhp and this massive SUV can get to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds while going onto a top-speed of 291 km/h. The DBX sits on a brand new platform plus it gets a sophisticated 4×4 system and air suspension. You can customize the car any which way you want to plus that engine sounds fantastic in any setting.
The DBX is an Aston Martin that you can do all the usual “Aston Martin” stuff but it will also tear apart the scenery along with provoking you to take that off-road route on your way home. Aston Martin Delhi has brought the DBX to India with a base price of Rs 3.8cr.
