Healthy glowing skin, isn’t that the one thing that we all aspire to have? Over the past few months, I’ve spent a good amount of time thoroughly researching what products and regimes can be followed to maintain skin health. I came across various products that are available in the markets, but I concluded that DIY face masks are the best way to go. The major reason for this being that they are made from natural/organic products, designed specifically for different skin types.
My two most favourite used ingredients in a DIY facemask are definitely avocados and oatmeal. Why? Well, when it comes to avocados the best part is, they are good to use on both oily and dry skin. They also contain vitamins E & C, potassium, lecithin, and much more which all result in skin softening and protection from UV damage. Oatmeal, on the other hand, is like a healer for the face. It can rebuild damaged skin, protect skin from UV and environmental damage, plus moisturize and cleanse the pores of your skin.
Here are some of the DIY facemasks that I used which led to amazing results:
- Avocado, Turmeric, & Lemon Juice:
Mix one ripe mashed avocado, a pinch of turmeric, and a tablespoon of lemon juice until they blend into a fine paste and apply to the face. Leave for a good 15 minutes and then wash off with lukewarm water and pat dry with a soft towel. This will leave your skin feeling smooth, calm, and radiant.
- Avocado & Oatmeal:
Cook oatmeal as per normal and mash one avocado into it without its skin and seeds. Stir both together until all the lumps dissolve. Apply it to your face and leave on until the mixture dries, approx. 10-15 minutes. Wash it off and your face will remain feeling fresh throughout the day. This face mask is also very effective in repairing any damage that has taken place on your skin.
- Avocado & Honey:
Remove the skin and seeds of one avocado, mash it and add in one spoonful of honey into it. Mix the two until a paste is formed. Apply and leave on your face for at least 20 minutes. As honey and avocado are both natural moisturizers after the application of this mask your skin will feel soft, look glowing, and rid of any dull complexion.
4. Oatmeal Facial Mask:
Take 2-3 tablespoons of oatmeal and blend it until it is in powder form. After that add one teaspoon of baking soda into it and start adding water into the mix until it forms into a thick paste. Apply this onto your face and leave for about 10-15 minutes. This is an excellent face mask to use when you are dealing with acne and looking for ways to reduce it. With regular weekly use, there will be a positive change in the way your face looks and feels.
- Oatmeal & Banana:
Take one ripe banana and mash it completely, add cooked oatmeal, one tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of fresh yoghurt, one teaspoon of apple juice, and one egg white into it. Mix all the ingredients well till a smooth paste is made and apply it to the face. Leave on for a good 15-20 minutes and then wash off with lukewarm water. Whether it is dry skin, dull skin, or a need to cleanse the pores of your skin, this is a great DIY mask to opt for.
